Hair Loss

Do you know that a lot of people nowadays are experiencing thinning hair or hair loss altogether? The painful reality is, there are certain skin disease that can occur at any age that affects man and women equally. A condition that does not descriminate.

A hard to swallow problem for all those men and women suffering from this experience. As it is said that our hair especially for women are the crown of  glory. And yes, for men as well more than we care to admit.

There are a lot of factors I discover when I was trying to look for the answer for such problem. Yes, I did a little research on  the topic to help us tackle on the hair loss problem.

So What Causes Thinning Hair or Hair Loss?

There are different factors and causes on hair loss from either genetics, nutrition and more. Several medical condition and several lifestyle that could trigger hair loss especially in women.  Hair loss experts suggest, that it is better to address this problem to your Doctor and ask to be tested for thyroid problems as this could also lead to hair loss. Not to mention hormone imbalances as well.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, that nearly half of all adults in the US could experience thinning hair by 40. Well, isn't that promising! Kidding aside,

Here are some common reasons why others experience sudden hair loss. It is due to the following:

  •  Medication,
  •  Pregnancy for women
  •  Thyroid disorders
  • Hormone Imbalance
  • Anemia
  • Tight hairstyles, could also be the cuprit
  •  Alopecia areata

Some of the common triggers on hair loss is also due to nutrition deficiency. And this is common for people who are trying to lose weight. As we know, without proper nutrition, our body could go hay wire. Does it mean you will also lose proper nutrition if you try to lose weight? Heck no! as it is all about balanced diet, isn't it! So Make sure you  are still getting the proper nutrition your body needs before you start losing hair!

Other reason on hair loss  is also due to extreme stress or trauma in your life that could play a big part of your hair loss. Or other symptoms like a medical condition and hormone imbalace already mentioned above. A symptoms of something that has gone wrong in your body that could potentially result on hair loss.

So What are the treatment options and alternative we can go for to cope with these problem? Or is there really any prevention to balding?

Okay,  Let me quote "Adam Penstein, MD, chief dermatologist at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in Lake Success, N.Y.
I find it very interesting  to share this common belief that genes largely what determine whether you'll be one of these balding men.

As I understand a contradiction of what he said, "Your genes don't necessarily get the final word".
Sounds promising!
You still can save the hair you've got and (at least in some cases) recover some of what you've lost with one of two medications: Which is in a form of  foam or lotion called minoxidil (the brand name is Rogaine) or a prescription pill, finasteride (Propecia).

What minoxidil does for men is stimulate hair growth, though researchers don't fully understand how. There are 7 up to 10 men who take minoxidil and say they experience regrowth of hair.
And if you are thinking of trying minoxidil for yourself, you must have patience as it could take for months before you could see any results.

And be warned on the possible side effects that could take place if you used minoxidil. Such as, flaking, redness in the scalp for some men, and  itchiness. Although, as mentioned above that there other alternative medication if the side effect of using minoxidil is not for you. And it comes in a pill form as I have mentioned

A pill to prevent hair loss is called, Finasteride. Now, for men, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone considered the major culprit in male pattern baldness as it shrinks genetically sensitive hair follicles until it can no longer grow hair. What Finasteride does, is slows hair loss as many as 90% of men experienced this, and men who takes it, regrow some hair.

As encouraging as it sounds, be aware that this does not cure balding problems. However, it is only to  keep hair loss at bay. And it is also mentioned that, the moment you stop taking the medicine, you can start losing hair again, and sometimes even faster than before per, Pernstein.

Well, be as it may, at least you will  know for yourself which direction to go for. Isn't it good though just to know you have an alternative or option to choose from. Well, at least temporarily.

And you may also want to know that that vitamin B12 can also help and promote healthier and thicker hair growth.
Best to consult your dermatologist is they can also recommend some special scalp hair growth products to help your thinning hair.

There are also divices, a  laser devices available out there, a laser light that they claim to stimulate hair growth and reverse thinning hair. It takes 2-4 months to see the results. These devices are available in some clinics and available in handheld devices to use at home.

And for severe cases, there is also an option for hair transplant which can take hair from either a donor or move thinning areas in your scalp.

Now, for women you probably might know already that there are lots hair products to choose from out there to help make your locks look thicker and healthier. And these are:

  • Applying volumizing products on your hair to create that volume that makes hair appear thicker and allows follicles to grow thicker hair.
  •  Also, it helps to color your hair as this can also add body and volume in your hair strands.
  • Besides pampering yourself in a salon, you could also go for hair treatment in the salon that promotes healthier scalp which could mean healthier hair growth.
  • You might also want to consider  a multi-layered hair cut to help your hair appear fuller.

And best of all, consult your doctor to discuss the availlable options that could potentially help you effectively and hopefully reverse your hair loss.
